Bio Diesel
Bio-Diesel (monoalkyl esters) is a second generation, renewable energy source and is obtained by the transesterification of triglyceride oil with monohydric alcohols. The second generation biodiesel is a nontoxic and biodegradable fuel. It can be produced from: rapeseed, soybeans, sunflowers, canola, Jatropha, animal fats, palm oil, corn oil and even from waste cooking oil.
However, the one of the third generation bio fuel is from micro algae. Which produce more lipids per hectare than corn, soybeans, canola , jatropha, coconut and oil palm. The oil content in potential microalgae varies from 15-80 % by weight of dry biomass. The production of biodiesel from micro algae has several advantages like:
Micro algae double their biomass within 24 h. Biomass doubling times during exponential growth are as short as 3.5 h.
The oil / lipid content in microalgae, is capable, through selective breeding, to exceed 80% by weight of dry biomass.
It does not compete with conventional food crops for cultivable land or compromise current production of crops.
It is able to be grown in any climate and/or soil conditions and is particularly suited to wasteland.
It requires only air, light, nutrients and water for its growth and multiplication.
It can be grown in photo-bioreactors wherein the biomass productivity is several times higher than open raceway ponds.
It can efficiently utilise the carbon emissions of high polluting industries, for growth and multiplication; effectively cleaning current pollution.
The mass production of biomass is very profitable in the current economic climate.
Hash BioTech has been successful in selecting and optimizing the growth attributes of oil rich strains of microalgae with the potential to produce biodiesel in commercial quantities. Our R&D department are concentrating on the manipulation of oil rich potentials strains of microalgae for enhancing oil content, reducing doubling time, improving the quality of the oil, incorporating attributes that utilise greater carbon emissions for conversion into biomass and oil content. Our technology has not only been developed for the mass cultivation of oil producing strains in photo bioreactors, but for an efficient method to convert it into biodiesel and the recovery of other bio-products for commercial use.
