Phycoremediation
Phycoremediation is the technology in which macro-algae or micro-algae use to remove or transform the pollutants, including heavy metals, toxic compounds, organic waste, dyes, radioactive waste and xenobiotics compounds from wastewater, polluted soil and CO2 from waste air. Moreover, it has been also proved that it is effective in treating array of effluents such as those of dye, food, chemical, pharmaceutical, dairy, oil drilling and pigment industries.
The research team at Hash BioTech is focusing on the following areas:
1. 1. The improvements of strains of micro alga for the effective remediation of complete pollutants with recovery of some commercial products and precious metals.
2. Studying impact of heavy metals on the metabolism of microalgae.
3. Development of heavy metal resistant strains of microalgae.
4. Development of immobilized bed columns for continuous removal of heavy metals and other pollutants from sewage water or industrial effluents.
5. Recovery of precious metals like gold, platinum etc from waste.
6. Efforts are being made to develop technology for the removal radio nucleids.
7. Removal of taste, odor and colour from industrial effluents/potable water.
